Common air conditioner problems and how to fix them

Common air conditioner problems and how to fix them

Relief from intense summer heat is almost impossible without the cool air of an air conditioner. Invented in the 20th century, air conditioning systems help regulate temperature and reduce humidity, preventing heat-related health issues. The environment they create is comfortable for working, relaxing, and living. Because of their importance, any malfunction during hot days can cause serious discomfort. Air conditioners may develop several common issues over time:

1. Insufficient cooling
An air conditioner may fail to provide proper cooling due to compressor issues or restricted airflow.

Solution: Check, clean, and if necessary, replace the air filters. Clean the outdoor unit and make sure windows and doors are closed while the unit is running.

2. Poor airflow
Weak airflow can be caused by clogged filters, blocked vents, or various technical faults that reduce system efficiency.

Solution: Since this issue can have multiple causes, inspect the ventilation system and outdoor unit. If the unit was recently installed, make sure its capacity matches the size of the space. A small unit may not effectively cool a large area, in which case a more powerful system is required.

3. Leakage
Liquid leakage from an air conditioner can reduce cooling performance and harm the environment. One of the most common causes is a clogged drainage system, often due to dirt, dust, or mold buildup. If left untreated, it may also lead to respiratory issues.

Solution: Vinegar is commonly used to clean the drain. Mix equal parts vinegar and water, pour the solution into the pipe, leave it for about 30 minutes, and then rinse with clean water.

4. Frozen evaporator coils
This can occur due to airflow problems, leading to reduced cooling and potential compressor damage.

Recommendation: Turn off the air conditioner to allow the coils to defrost and clean the filters.

5. Compressor issues
Compressor failure is often caused by overheating, usually due to high voltage.

Solution: In most cases, replacing the compressor is the best option, so consult a professional for proper assessment and replacement.

6. Electrical problems
Faulty wiring can disrupt the system and cause operational failures.

Solution: Make sure the power is turned off before inspecting damaged wiring. If necessary, contact a professional technician. Keep in mind that different types of air conditioners require different maintenance and repair approaches.

Inverter air conditioners
Inverter air conditioners are a more advanced and efficient version of traditional systems. They are more energy-efficient, operate at lower voltage, allow control of motor speed, are environmentally friendly, and more durable.

At “Nova,” one of the most popular options is the Airfel inverter air conditioner, which combines affordability with practical functionality. It offers cooling, heating, and circulation modes. Its cooling capacity is 9000 BTU, while heating reaches 10000 BTU.

Portable (floor-standing) air conditioners
Compared to traditional wall-mounted units, portable air conditioners have the advantage of not requiring installation. A compact unit does not require permanent modifications to your interior. You can place it in any space when needed and remove it when not in use.

Prices
The price of an air conditioner depends on its functionality, brand, size, and type. In Nova’s catalog, portable air conditioners belong to the higher price category due to their size and features. They offer both cooling and heating modes, with a capacity of 48000 BTU (suitable for 100–150 m² spaces).

Traditional air conditioner prices at “Nova” range from 800 GEL to 5000 GEL. On Nova’s website, you can explore a wide variety of options - start browsing now and find an air conditioner at a great price.
